Cats Only Veterinary Clinic is proud to offer Radioactive Iodine (I-131) therapy for cats with hyperthyroidism at our Upper Arlington location, making us one of few facilities in Central Ohio equipped for this specialized treatment. I-131 uses a small dose of radioactive iodine that is absorbed only by overactive thyroid tissue, destroying abnormal cells while leaving healthy thyroid tissue intact. This procedure offers a cure for the vast majority of affected cats and often eliminates the need for long-term medication.
Cats typically stay in our Upper Arlington facility for 3–5 days, with specific post-treatment precautions at home to limit radiation exposure to household members. Before scheduling treatment, we require full medical records and a completed referral form from your cat’s primary veterinarian. After reviewing your cat’s records, we’ll schedule a consultation to discuss the procedure, review your cat’s history, and provide a personalized treatment plan. Treatment costs start at $1,785, with half due upfront due to the customized nature of the therapy. Additional diagnostics may be required prior to treatment. We are happy to work closely with your cat’s primary veterinarian to ensure proper follow-up and ongoing care.
